What is cryptocurrency
Cryptocurrencies use cryptography to encrypt sensitive information, including the private keys – long alphanumeric strings of characters – of crypto holders. Think of private keys as the passwords that determine the ownership of cryptocurrencies. Keep in mind that cryptocurrencies cannot be stored outside of the blockchain. They are permanently based on the blockchain. Hence, when someone says they own X amount of coins, what they really mean is that their password can legitimately claim X amount of coins on the blockchain.
Diversification is key to any good investment strategy, and this holds true when you are investing in cryptocurrency. Don’t put all your money in Bitcoin, for example, just because that’s the name you know. There are thousands of options, and it’s better to spread your investment across several currencies.
Darknet markets present challenges in regard to legality. Cryptocurrency used in dark markets are not clearly or legally classified in almost all parts of the world. In the US, bitcoins are regarded as «virtual assets». These private keys are what crypto holders store on their wallets, which, as you must have guessed, are special kinds of software or devices designed specifically for this purpose. In instances where a crypto holder loses access to his or her private key, the cryptocurrencies associated with such keys could be lost permanently.

A high Bitcoin dominance ratio typically infers altcoins are doing poorly in the market, or at the very least poorly when compared with Bitcoin. In contrast, a low BTC dominance figure means that alternative digital assets, including Ethereum and all other coins that are not Bitcoin, are performing well against the world’s oldest crypto.
The next Bitcoin mining event, known as the Bitcoin halving, is expected to occur around April 2028. The last halving took place in April 2024, reducing the block reward from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC per block. This event is significant because it reduces the rate at which new Bitcoins are created, contributing to Bitcoin’s scarcity and potentially influencing its price. The next halving in 2028 will further reduce the reward to 1.5625 BTC per block.
This negative sentiment appears to have been broken, with a number of corporate behemoths buying up Bitcoin since 2020. In particular, business intelligence firm MicroStrategy set the pace after it bought $425 million worth of Bitcoin in August and September 2020. Since then, many others have followed suit, including EV manufacturer Tesla.
Surprisingly, the anti-crypto stance of the Chinese government has done little to stop the industry. According to data by the University of Cambridge, China is now the second-biggest contributor to Bitcoin’s global hash rate, only behind the United States.
Real estate has also embraced Bitcoin as a viable payment option. Although relatively rare, there have been notable instances of real estate sales conducted with Bitcoin. The acceptance of BTC in the real estate market showcases its growing recognition as a legitimate and valuable asset for high-value transactions. As Bitcoin continues to gain traction, more opportunities for purchasing properties using cryptocurrency may emerge.
